Author Spotlight on Steven B. Howery

Full Name:  Steven B. Howery
City:
State:  Colorado
Country:  USA

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City, State or Country?:   I'm proud to add my small part to the rich literary contributions of English-speaking writers, particularly to those of veteran war novelists.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:   The novels and short stories of Ernest Hemmingway first inspired me to begin writing. His remarkable ability to describe thoughts and scenes in such rich detail opened me to the idea that what the mind sees far exceeds the visual image. An avid reader of first-hand accounts of war, I want to leave a legacy for the next generation to understand what it was like tracking al Qa’ida in Southeast Asia, to chase shadows in Iraq, or to battle Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan.

Tell us why you write the genre(s) that you write?:   I write novels about intelligence operations and warfare because so few people really understand what it's like to be involved in these endeavors. My unusual path in life has afforded me an opportunity to share some of these events from a first-hand perspective. Using the novel as a vehicle I am able to share the disappointment, pain and even euphoria that intelligence officers encounter in wartime.  The purpose is not to propagandize from one perspective or the other, but to illustrate what it is like to be an ordinary person in extraordinary circumstances.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:  Just back from Afghanistan, I'm also working on two more novels. The first begins with the invasion of Iraq and follows the conflicting motivations of an Army intelligence officer, a CIA operative, and a CNN reporter searching for Saddam's illusive weapons of mass destruction. The second follows the parallel lives to two boys born worlds apart, one from Houston, Texas and the other in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Both become soldiers and find their fate intertwined through three decades of war in Afghanistan.

Author Spotlight on Cindy K. Green

Full Name: Cindy K. Green
City: Red Oak
State: North Carolina
Country: USA

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City, State or Country?:  I’m actually a transplant to North Carolina. I just moved here three years ago from California. It is a beautiful place, so very green, especially to someone from a desert-like state. But even more, I love the history of the place. I have done substantial research on the Outer Banks area specifically and written a story in that location with another one planned. It is a lovely place to live and raise my children.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:  I’ve always wanted to be a writer, it seems; but I do believe I was most inspired as I read L.M. Montgomery’s (famous for her Anne of Green Gable’s books) heroines in her many books and short stories. So many of them wanted to be writers which only fueled the fire of my desire to write. In fact, if you read some of my writings during those formative years, they are very Montgomery inspired.

Tell us why you write the genre(s) that you write?:  I write in the many genres that I write because I love reading them. I write in the following genres: Inspirational, Contemporary, Suspense, Historical, Fantasy and even Young Adult.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:  I am polishing up a high fantasy romance called The Princess and the Outlaw. It has a hero who is part Robin Hood and part Scarlet Pimpernel. It’s very fun, adventurous and romantic. And this December I will have a new Inspirational release with By Grace Publishing called Romancing Miss Abbot. It’s about a schoolteacher who gets talked into spending her winter break at a new luxury mountain resort only to be faced by the man she gave a bloody nose to the day before. This man ends up being the playboy owner of the hotel chain who has a dark history which maybe only she can help heal.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?:  This May I have a new release - a Chicklit novella called Meeting Mr. Right Online with By Grace Publishing. It’s sweet and completely hilarious.

I also have a newsletter. It includes my news, reviews, a contest, and a continuing free short read. To subscribe email me at newsletters@cindykgreen.com

Author Spotlight on Terry Fulgham

Name: Terry Fulgham
City: Flint
State: Michigan
Country: USA

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City State or Country?:  Flint, Michigan is a great place to live and raise a family. My roots are here in Michigan, My mother and father was born and raised in Flint, my sisters and myself we were born and raise here I am proud to say my children were born here. Since the early 80  Flint, Michigan has had a bad turn of events as far as economy bad time because of General Motor downsizing their employee and laying off people from factory work here in Flint and all over Michigan which had a dominos effect that has effected the whole state of Michigan. The people of Flint as well as all over Michigan has showed we can survive the bad time. Michigan has a broad base of creative and talented peoples I belong to this same group. I am proud of Flint and the peoples of Michigan.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:  My grandchildren inspired me to actually write my life story. By asking so many questions about my life. One of my granddaughters said to me Granddad you have done so many interesting things in your life you should write a book. This is really where I started to think serious about writing. To be honest with you twenty something odd years ago when I first came out of the treatment center for my alcoholic/drug addiction, I had thought about writing about my life story, but it was just a thought. Since I have had my life story publisher I tell people that my book   Battling The Blessings  has fifty years of history, twenty years in the making and took me two years to write. My thought was to only write this book for my grandchildren, Since I have publisher my life story it seem that so many of my family, friend and people that I don’t even know want to read my story, what a blessing that is for me. We all have a story to tell, mine just happen to be now.

Tell us why you write the genres that you write?:  Battling The Blessing is a story that I wrote because it’s my life story. Just the title alone explains my LIFE. I knew that before I actually started to write my book that I needed some inspiration. First I needed a title for my book that I could base my life story on. Second I needed to be true to my story which wouldn’t be hard since I base my sobriety on being honest with myself. The title of my book is something I have been doing all my life is battling blessings. Getting started writing was hard for me since the only thing that I ever wrote was a short letter or a note. Putting my life story down on paper came easy since I was being honest about the event that happen in my life. Writing was like flying a kite. If you have a little wind the kite fly’s the more wind the higher the kite flies. With me was when the Lord sprite was with me the more I wrote. Not that the Lord wasn’t with me all the time. With his help I was able to finish my book.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:  Right now my flower garden. I love to do gardening, Roses are my favor flowers. I been thinking about writing something again in the near future but this time on the line of fiction. A story about two men on the different side of the law. Who found out later on in life that they were brothers. Maybe try for a screen play. Right now I am just going to enjoy gardening.
