Author Spotlight on Sam Bonnamy

Full Name: Sam Bonnamy
City:
State: England
Country: United Kingdom

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City, State or Country?:  In a small way I'm becoming part of the long-established British literary tradition.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:   I was always a voracious reader when younger, although I don't do so much of that today.  But I suppose, having read so much both for pleasure and study purposes, it was a natural step to see if I could get on to the other side of the fence, so to speak.  Influences on me include Evelyn Waugh, Conan Doyle, M. R. James and the Master, P. G. Wodehouse.

Tell us why you write the genre(s) that you write?:   I'm in two genres at present.  Victorian crime and adventure stories make up one, and the other is ancient historical adventure.  Interest in the past is one obvious motivator, interest in character another, and trying to tell a pacy story is a third.  I agree with the theory that plot comes from character, so I'm trying to develop characters throughout a series.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:   Right now I've got another Mycroft Holmes and Anna volume in hand for Writers' Exchange, and another Hero the Amazon story with Renaissance Ebooks to see what they think of it.

Current Books:   The Other Mr Holmes, Mycroft Up Against It, Hero the Amazon

State: Massachusetts
Country: USA

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:  Family, friends...Whitman, Thoreau, Frost, Gibran

Tell us why you write the genre(s) that you write?:  Not only is there a reason for all things, there is a season as well. Those of us who find ourselves suddenly "seniors" are in the fall of our lives. To a goodly number who have reached the so-called golden years this means that "now" is when we dance the inevitable, maca-bre overture to death. Yet I, like a child anxious for desert, await the flavor and sweetness I know that comes only in the season of old age. I bend an ear…the earth whispers "Look at me" and life answers "See what I've done!"One of the finer pleasures I get from life is sharing, That's why I write about things as I know them, instead of how I imagine or desire them to be.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:  : Acutally I have several works in progress, a compilation of short stories titled "Tutt's Tales", and memoir styled, philosophical self-help book titled "The Old Man of Naukeag."

Author Spotlight on Tango Wayne Beatty

Name: Tango Wayne Beatty
City: Hobart
State: Tasmania
Country: Australia

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City State or Country?:  I emigrated from the UK as a lad of 17, and since then, Australia has been good to me - if I can gain just a little recognition as a Tasmanian author, then I will have, at least in part, returned the favour!

What or who inspired you to become a writer?:  Reading in general, of course, but there are so many who have enthralled me; Georgette Heyer, Agatha Christie, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Terry Pratchett - I could name hundreds, but my favourite of all is the S/F author Hal Clement.

Tell us why you write the genres that you write?:  I have always liked science, and at 17, became a junior in a laboratory in Sydney. I stayed with the same company for 38 years as a research chemist / teacher / computer programmer / safety officer. During all that time, I didn't write a thing, though I read all the S/F and fantasy I could get my hands on. After I retired, I decided to try my hand at writing in my favourite genres - and promptly gave up reading! I have now written eight novels in six years and am working on my ninth.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?:  My current novel is entitled 'Moving Miniatures', and is up to page 90 at the moment. As are all my stories, it is a gay-oriented fantasy adventure.

Current books:  Centauran, Golden, Hidden Treasure, Pyramid, Rafe 'n' Me, Scandinal, The Swayer of Sankara, Wolfmagic.
